IER funded project to continue studies on the reproductive ecology of honey bees

IER funded project to continue studies on the reproductive ecology of honey bees One year of funding will be used to study the areas where honey bee (Apis mellifera) drones congregate.

Alejandra Scannapieco (INTA Castelar), Alberto Galindo (IER) y Carolina Monmany (IER), researchers leading the project.

The project was awarded a grant from Williams Foundation to study how environmental factors (land use, topography, and others) affect the probability of drone aggregation areas forming in Argentina. Identifying the relative importance of these factors will be essential to predict the occurrence of these areas, something that is new worldwide and that will allow improving the multiplication of colonies in a natural way, considering genetic improvement and bee health.
